Are you ready to embark on a journey of self-discovery, spirituality, and personal growth? Look no further than the captivating world of tarot reading. Tarot, often seen as a mystical tool for divination, holds the power to not only reveal insights about the future but also to serve as a profound instrument for meditation, self-reflection, and actionable steps.

The "Magic" of Tarot Reading

Imagine shuffling a deck of tarot cards, each card brimming with symbolism and wisdom. As you lay them out before you, a story unfolds – a story deeply intertwined with your own. Tarot readings have the remarkable ability to tap into our subconscious, bringing hidden thoughts and emotions to the surface. It's like holding a mirror to our souls, reflecting our innermost desires, fears, and hopes.

Whether you want to call it magic, enlightenment, clarity, spiritual connection, intuition, or anything else, it is this spark that I invite you to foster and nurture within yourself.

Tarot as a Meditative Practice

Meditation is a powerful tool for centering oneself, finding inner peace, and gaining clarity. Tarot reading, when approached with intention and mindfulness, can be a form of active meditation. As you focus on each card, contemplating its meaning and relevance to your life, you enter a state of deep introspection. The rhythmic act of shuffling the cards and the quiet contemplation that follows create a moment of stillness amidst life's chaos.

Every day, as part of my morning routine, I select a deck from my shelf of decks and pull a card, sometimes 2, sometimes 3. It's never set in stone for my daily personal meditative readings, it's a conversation between my energy and the energy of the universe. Not only do I ask, "through which deck and with how many cards does the universe wish to speak to me today?" But also, "which deck's card or cards do I have the capacity to listen to today?" In this way, I build a relationship with each of my decks and each of the cards every day.

As you grow and deepen your relationship with tarot, you can find additional meditative benefits:

  • Focus and Mindfulness: The process of drawing and interpreting cards can help center your thoughts and bring you into the present moment. This focus on the imagery and symbolism of the cards can enhance mindfulness and reduce stress.

  • Intuitive Development: Working with tarot can enhance your intuitive abilities. As you interpret the cards and their meanings, you may become more attuned to your own inner guidance and intuition.

  • Spiritual Connection: For those who view tarot through a spiritual lens, the practice can deepen your connection to your higher self or spiritual guides. The cards can serve as a tool for spiritual exploration and guidance.

Tarot as Self-Reflection

In David Mitchell's Cloud Atlas (2004), he wrote, "Our lives are not our own. We are bound to others, past and present, and by each crime and every kindness, we birth our future." Self-reflection is an incredibly powerful practice precisely because although we reflect on the deepest parts of ourselves, its impact is felt by all of those around us, and like a mirror, reflected back onto us.

I see the active practice of reading tarot cards as ultimately a self-reflection of what each card means to you conversing with the greater significance it holds to the querent in any given context. This also means that the same card won't mean the same thing to you or to the querent at any given place or time. You may pull a card for yourself one day and interpret it one way, only to find yourself pulling the same card some days, weeks, or months later, interpreting it completely differently. This isn't to say your interpretations are wrong, but different circumstances have caused the significance and meaning of the card revealed to you at that particular moment to evolve, and your self-reflection makes that possible and opens up so many more doors.

Through tarot and self-reflection, you can also see:

  • Self-Exploration: Tarot encourages introspection by prompting you to reflect on your life, emotions, and experiences. Each card can serve as a mirror, helping you gain insights into your inner world and personal challenges.

  • Emotional Processing: Tarot can help you explore and process emotions by providing a structured way to examine feelings and situations. The symbolism of the cards can offer new perspectives and aid in understanding complex emotional states.

  • Personal Growth: Regular reflection through tarot can promote personal growth and self-awareness. By regularly engaging with the cards, you may uncover patterns in your behavior or attitudes that you can work on improving.

Taking Action with Tarot

One of the most powerful aspects of tarot is its ability to inspire actionable steps. Tarot readings often provide guidance and insights that can help us make informed decisions and navigate life's challenges. By interpreting the cards and reflecting on their messages, we can gain clarity on what steps to take next. Tarot empowers us to move forward with confidence, knowing that we have the wisdom of the cards to guide us.

Perhaps the most empowering thing that I have learned about tarot is that there is always a choice and the future is never set in stone. There will be times when readings don't seem to click or vibe for you, and that's okay. No tarot reader in good conscience should ever claim to be able to get it right 100% of the time. It shouldn't be about numbers anyway, it's about helping people, in whatever ways we can, big or small. What tarot readers do is provide ourselves as conduits for different questions, insights, and reflections to come to the forefront of the conscious. After that, it's up to you to do with that information what you will, it's your choice!

Should you decide to take action, tarot can be an incredibly powerful tool for:

  • Problem-Solving: Using tarot can help you approach problems from different angles. The cards may present alternative solutions or highlight aspects of a situation you hadn’t considered, fostering creative problem-solving.

  • Goal Setting: Tarot can help you set goals and reflect on your progress. Through the cards, you can gain insights into the steps needed to achieve your objectives and assess your progress.

The Journey Begins...

Beyond its practical uses, tarot has a deep spiritual significance for many. It connects us to the mystical energies of the universe, offering a sense of guidance and protection. Whether you believe in the divine or see tarot as a tool for self-exploration, its symbolism and archetypal imagery have the power to stir something profound within us.

So, if you're ready to delve into the magical realm of tarot, take that first step today. Pick up a deck, light a candle, and create a sacred space for your readings. Allow the cards to speak to you, guiding you on a transformative journey.

Remember, in the world of tarot, the most powerful magic is the one that lies within you.

Let the journey begin...

Let the cards guide your path.
