The Hanged Man
At peace and even comfortable, the Hanged Man suspends themself literally attached to the tree but spiritually attached to nothing in this realm. The Hanged Man is enlightened in surrender, and their strength is in sacrifice and letting go.

Keywords: sacrifice, letting go, surrender, martyr
General Meaning: Hard to have the right perspective when you're upside down. Hold off on any major decisions until you're upright again.
Personal Interpretation: Slow your roll, release yourself from unnecessary burdens, the right path will reveal itself in time.
Reversed Meaning: disinterest, detachment, apathy, boredom
Affirmation: "Even when I surrender, it is of my own will."
Symbolism: grey backdrop, tree, bound foot, blue tunic, halo
Imagery Notes: grey backdrop - nothing's quite so simple, there is no black and white; tree - symbolic of the possibility of growth; bound foot - giving up free will and letting go of control; blue tunic - at peace with the sacrifices one has made; halo - enlightenment in surrender
People: Socrates, Joan of Arc, MLK Jr.
Places: Amusement park rides like rollercoasters, in the air skydiving or bungee jumping, outer space or the deep sea

Personal Insights & Other Notes: The Hanged Man is a card that really drives home "don't judge a book by its cover." In its upright position, it seems much worse than it is as the Hanged Man is upside down, but in reality, its reversed position where the Hanged Man is right side up is an indicator of apathy. Like the world around us, things may not always be apparent from first glance, so take your time to have a second look and not be so quick to judge.
